ICYMI: Hickenlooper Talks Bipartisan Path Forward on Climate, Immigration on MSNBC

Apr 29, 2022

“We have to accelerate into a clean energy economy. We can’t take our eye off the ball.”

In case you missed it, U.S. Senator John Hickenlooper appeared on Meet the Press Daily with Chuck Todd to discuss a bipartisan path forward on climate change, immigration, pandemic preparedness, and other key priorities.

Watch HERE, or see highlights below.

On combating climate change:

“We have to recognize that we have to go as fast as we can, we have to accelerate into a clean energy economy. We can’t take our eye off the ball. We also have to recognize that we have people who are working Americans that are making an hourly wage, and right now they’re spending over $100 to fill their tank with gas, and a lot of them don’t have access to transit or other ways of mobility, so we have an obligation to them that they can make their monthly budget last.

On immigration reform:

“We’re at a moment where immigration is a mess. This country needs workers desperately… [Inflation] is a huge part of it, we are not having sufficient workforce to fill the jobs that are needed for us to grow at the rate that our economy would like to grow. So how do we address this? Maybe now is the time where we begin to address DREAMers, and agricultural workers, and health care workers, all these workers that are coming and tie that to the asylum fix and a border fix.”

On pandemic preparedness:

“We’ve got to get ready for the next pandemic, whatever it may be. We know there’s going to be another one, and we have got to make sure that we are sufficiently in charge of rebuilding our public health and in charge of the situation so that we don’t get caught flat-footed again.”
