Hey Durango!
Last week, we were in town to check out all the ways La Plata County is innovating and building strong communities.
First stop was Westside Mobile Home Park, where residents are fighting back against powerful hedge fund managers who are purchasing properties and jacking up the rent. Their determination was truly inspiring. No person should be forced out of their home by unscrupulous investors, and we’ve called on the Federal Housing Finance Agency to put an end to this shady practice.
Then, we checked out Durango’s first and ONLY vehicle-to-grid electric school bus powered by La Plata Electric Association. Our Bipartisan Infrastructure Bill is laying the groundwork that will put more EV school buses on our roads and cleaner air in our communities.
Later, we got to see other ways clean energy is powering communities in Durango. Residents in Animas View Mobile Home Park are reducing their carbon footprint with energy efficient technologies. From our biggest cities to our smallest neighborhoods, clean energy investments in our Inflation Reduction Act are going to help us build a more resilient infrastructure and a sustainable planet.
We capped off our travels at Fort Lewis College, where we toured a powerful new exhibit that documents the painful history of the federal government’s Indian Boarding Schools. In Washington, we have a bill that would investigate these atrocities so we can better understand their full repercussions.
Later, we met with Ute Mountain Ute and Southern Ute leaders to hear about their work creating solutions to the challenges facing Tribal communities and how we can strengthen our nation-to-nation relationship.
