Colorado Coalition for the Homeless will receive $500,000 grant from Department of Labor
WASHINGTON – Today, U.S. Senators John Hickenlooper and Michael Bennet celebrated the Department of Labor’s $500,000 grant to the Colorado Coalition for the Homeless, a charitable organization that connects homeless Coloradans to housing, healthcare, and critical vocational services. The Colorado grant comes as part of the Homeless Veterans’ Reintegration Program (HVRP), administered by the Department of Labor.
HVRP is the only federal grant to focus exclusively on job training and employment for homeless veterans. The program provides funding for three years to support the delivery of services to homeless veterans and those at risk of homelessness.
“Colorado’s veterans dedicated their lives to serving our country. They shouldn’t have to worry about how to make ends meet or where to sleep at night,” said Hickenlooper. “This grant is a step toward addressing homelessness in Colorado by getting veterans essential job training and housing support services.”
“As Coloradans face a housing affordability crisis, organizations like the Colorado Coalition for the Homeless are vital partners in providing support to those in need – especially veterans facing housing insecurity,” said Bennet. “I’m grateful for this federal support that will help them expand their services and connect more Coloradans who have served our country with a stable, supportive home.”
Senator Hickenlooper is a fierce advocate for programs that support homeless veterans. Earlier this year, he sent a letter to the Senate Military Construction, Veterans Affairs, and Related Agencies subcommittee in support of robust funding for Veterans Homelessness Programs in the FY24 government spending bill. In the letter, Hickenlooper requested funding for a number of programs that support homeless veterans including the Supportive Services for Veterans Families (SSVF) Program, the Grant and Per Diem (GPD) Program, and case management and supportive services administered by the Department of Veterans Affairs.
