Funding awarded via the Bipartisan Infrastructure Law Hickenlooper helped write and pass
WASHINGTON – Today, U.S. Senator John Hickenlooper welcomed the Environmental Protection Agency’s announcement of over $6 million in rebates for 25 new clean school buses for school districts across Colorado. Funds are awarded via the Clean School Bus Program, established under the Hickenlooper-supported Bipartisan Infrastructure Law.
“More school buses running on clean energy means cleaner air, healthier kids, and lower fuel costs,” said Hickenlooper. “Colorado school districts are replacing these old buses with electric ones thanks to our Bipartisan Infrastructure Law that continues to deliver.”

Regan. “With today’s latest round of funding, we are transforming the nation’s school bus fleet to better protect our most precious cargo—our kids–saving school districts money, improving air quality, and bolstering American manufacturing all at the same time.”

The EPA Clean School Bus Program provides $5 billion through a grant program where selected applicants are awarded funds to purchase buses, and a rebate program that allows selectees to receive awards before purchasing eligible buses that replace existing school buses with clean and zero-emission models. Today’s selectees were awarded funding through the rebate program.
In January, Hickenlooper welcomed $12 million from the Clean School Bus Program for 49 new, clean school buses for Colorado school districts.
School districts in low-income, rural, and Tribal communities make up approximately 45 percent of the selected projects and will receive approximately 67 percent of the total funding.
The EPA will make more funds available for clean school buses this year.
