WASHINGTON – U.S. Senator John Hickenlooper released the following statement after Republicans voted against the Right to Contraception Act, which would guarantee access to birth control, preventing further restrictions to reproductive rights in the wake of the Supreme Court Dobbs decision.

“In an America where women are being forced to carry pregnancies to term that could seriously endanger their lives, birth control is life or death.

“Republicans just voted to limit women’s freedom.”

Hickenlooper is a cosponsor of the Expanding Access to Family Planning Act, which would protect and expand access to reproductive health care services including birth control and cancer screenings. Hickenlooper also cosponsors theWomen’s Health Protection Act, which would codify Roe v. Wade into federal law, the Freedom to Travel for Health Care Act, and the Protecting Access to Medication Abortion Act, three bills that would protect women traveling to receive health care, as well as FDA-approved, over the counter abortion medication.
