Federal Worker Resources

Colorado is home to more than 60,000 public servants who work in our federal government agencies. These workers are our neighbors— letter carriers, nurses at VA hospitals, forest rangers, and more. They work hard each day to provide essential services that help Coloradans thrive.

We all want a more efficient government. As Mayor of Denver and Governor of Colorado, I balanced budgets and streamlined processes. If the goal is to cut real fraud, waste, and abuse, count us in.

But the Trump administration’s Department of Government Efficiency (DOGE) is shortchanging Coloradans and federal workers. Mass layoffs, confusing employment guidelines, and abrupt service cuts—without strategy or explanation—disrupt lives and weaken government services. These reckless cuts harm federal workers and undermine the federal government’s ability to serve our communities.

What we’re doing:

We’re committed to fighting back wherever we can. Check out a few of the actions we’ve taken to hold the administration accountable for their firings and actions that hurt Colorado:

U.S. Forest Service (USFS):

  • Following the Trump administration’s mass layoffs of 3,400 USFS employees, we sounded the alarm and called on Department of Agriculture Secretary Brooke Rollins to reinstate them
  • Invited Amelia, a veteran and a recently fired U.S. Forest Service (USFS) worker from Fort Collins, as our  guest to President Trump’s Joint Address to uplift her story and how these reckless cuts will impact Colorado

Department of Interior (DOI):

  • We denounced the DOI’s mass layoffs of 2,300 employees and demanded they be immediately reinstated
  • Following President Trump’s hiring freeze, his cancellation of thousands of job offers for seasonal National Park Service employees, and his buyout offers made without clear legal authority, we called on DOI Secretary Doug Burgum to resolve looming staffing shortages at the National Park Service
  • Raising alarm about the impacts these mass layoffs will have on our public lands

Department of Veterans Affairs (VA):

  • Following news that the admin fired thousands of veterans, we called directly on President Donald Trump to reinstate veterans that the administration illegally fired
  • Raised alarm about the Trump administration’s plans to fire 80,000 VA employees

National Oceanic and Atmospheric Administration (NOAA):

Consumer Financial Protection Bureau (CFPB):

  • We defended the CFPB and spoke on the Senate floor against a Republican measure that would weaken the CFPB
  • We demanded answers from the Director of the Office of Management and Budget about his directive freezing all supervisory and enforcement action at the CFPB

Small Business Administration (SBA):

  • We called on the SBA Administrator Kelly Loeffler to address the devastating impacts the recent and arbitrary mass firings of SBA public servants, including loan and disaster assistance staff and veterans, will have on small businesses in Colorado

Federal Aviation Administration (FAA):

  • We called out the reckless firing of FAA employees and how they undermine safe air travel

U.S. Agency for International Development (USAID):

  • We wrote to Secretary of State Marco Rubio expressing their deep concern regarding the illegal attempt by Department of Government Efficiency (DOGE) officials to dismantle the U.S. Agency for International Development (USAID).
