This year, the Senate Appropriations Committee is accepting Congressionally Directed Spending requests. The Senate Appropriations Committee will consider senators’ requests while writing the annual spending bill.  Projects listed here represent those that have been submitted as of July 1st and are not guaranteed to be funded. Project purpose: The purpose of the Enhanced Outcrop Methane Capture project is to capture, on a sustainable basis, approximately 290,000 tons of CO2 equivalent per year and convert it to a usable commodity. This is methane that currently escapes naturally from the coal outcrop into the air. The project will install infrastructure to capture the methane prior to it escaping.

Project Purpose: Installation of Cogency solar power technology at three facilities in Rangely, CO (Water Treatment Plant, Wastewater Treatment Plant, and Recreation Center). Solar installation would make all three facilities energy self-sufficient.

Recipient: Community Office for Resource Efficiency
Project purpose: Capture and destruction of methane leaking from the Coal Basin mining district above Redstone. Approximately 1.3 million cubic feet of methane are leaking per day. Conversion of methane to CO2 removes its global warming potential and produces liquid water for restoration of nearby riparian areas.

Project Purpose: Installation of solar panels at the Coonskin Ridge Communications Tower. The County is taking action to become carbon neutral. Project will use solar to offset 69% of one of their top energy use facilities and save the county money.
