Hickenlooper, Bennet Introduce Charlotte Sweeney at Confirmation Hearing for U.S. District Court

Oct 20, 2021

Washington, D.C. – U.S. Senators John Hickenlooper and Michael Bennet today introduced Charlotte Sweeney at her confirmation hearing before the Senate Judiciary committee. In August, President Joe Biden nominated Sweeney to serve on the U.S. District Court for the District of Colorado. Hickenlooper and Bennet recommended Sweeney to the White House for the position.

“Charlotte has dedicated her career to the people of Colorado, fighting for equality and equal justice under the law,” said Hickenlooper. “We look forward to the Senate acting swiftly to confirm her.”

“Charlotte Sweeney’s obvious credentials, integrity, and much-needed experience more than qualify her to serve on the U.S. District Court for the District of Colorado, which is why I strongly support her nomination,” said Bennet. “If confirmed, Charlotte would also become the first openly gay woman to serve as a federal judge west of the Mississippi – a powerful affirmation of America’s commitment to opportunity and equality for all. I urge members of both parties to send her to the floor with a strong, bipartisan vote.”

Sweeney would be the first openly LGBT federal judge in Colorado and the first openly LGBT woman to serve as a federal district court judge in any state west of the Mississippi.
