Amendment voices U.S. support for separate, mutually-recognized states for Israelis and Palestinians

WASHINGTON – U.S. Senators John Hickenlooper and Michael Bennet joined 47 of their Senate colleagues to introduce an amendment to the upcoming national security supplemental package that reiterates U.S. commitment to a two-state solution to the Israel-Palestine conflict.

The amendment comes in response to recent statements by Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu opposing the creation of a Palestinian state.

“A two-state solution will give Israelis and Palestinians mutual security, peace, and a path to a better future,” said Hickenlooper. “Anything short of that will only prolong this conflict.”

“It is in the interest of Israelis, Palestinians, and Americans that Israel works with the United States and Arab partners to help create a genuine pathway toward a two-state solution. I firmly believe that such a solution is necessary for a more peaceful and prosperous Middle East,” said Bennet.
