Bills include over $129 million total for 120 Colorado projects
Additional projects expected to be funded as remaining government funding bills pass later this month
WASHINGTON – Today, U.S. Senator John Hickenlooper applauded final Senate passage of the first of two federal funding bills for fiscal year 2024, including over $129 million in congressionally directed spending (CDS) for 120 Colorado projects.
The legislation now goes to President Biden’s desk to be signed into law.
“From affordable housing to infrastructure projects, this is a bill with Colorado needs written all over it,” said Hickenlooper. “These projects came from Coloradans, for Coloradans. And there’s more to come.”
The bipartisan package funds six federal agencies including much-needed support for families facing hunger in the Supplemental Nutrition Assistance Program (SNAP), funding for Community Health Centers, and significant resources to combat drought and provide reliable water in the West.
Hickenlooper specifically secured multiple legislative wins in the package including funding for:
- Land and Water Conservation Fund (LWCF) projects: Hickenlooper pursued funding for projects to preserve Colorado lands. A total of four LWCF projects – La Jara Basin, Dunton Meadows, Cataract Creek at Camp Hale, and Rocky Mountain National Park – were included in the final bill.
- Orbital Debris Removal: The package provides $5 million for NASA to develop an orbital debris inspection mission in line with Senator Hickenlooper’s bipartisan Orbital Sustainability (ORBITS) Act.
Of the package’s $129 million in total funding for 120 Colorado CDS projects, Hickenlooper specifically secured $88 million in funding for 78 projects. A full list of the fiscal year 2024 included projects is available below:
